Specimens

The brief for this project was to produce two double-page spreads that detail the history of the typeface, analyse its features, show examples of the typeface in use and explore the designer who created it. Additionally required was a third double-page spread as an illustrative response. The spreads were to be constructed using grids that reflect the shape and character of the allocated typeface and strengthened by a 500-1000 word written feature.

I based my layout and writing upon these methodologies and work by the likes of Laszlo Moholy-Nagy and Herbert Bayer. I also directly contacted Peter Bil’ak and presented some questions to him based on my research and personal interpretation. I used this interview as the basis for my final project as well as for the illustrative response.
